Dear Mother in Me,
Did you know it is International Day of the Girl Child on October 11?
The birth of a child is a time for excitement and celebration for many of us. However, the birth of a girl child sometimes does not garner the same response as a boy. I came across this beautiful quote from the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh scripture):
From woman, man is born;
within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married.
Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come.
When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound.
So why call her bad? From her, kings are born.
From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all.
— Guru Nanak, Raag Aasaa Mehal 1, Page 473
It's from a place of gratitude that I am organizing a gift for Moms who give birth to a baby girl on October 11th. I'm supporting Nach Balliye, an organization who will be giving out Pink Ladoos (Indian sweets) to families at local hospitals in the Peel area on Oct 11th as they welcome a baby girl into their lives. And you know me, I'm always happy to support smart, dedicated and socially conscious women in any way I can. These young women are talking about issues that need to be addressed and supporting in a positive, celebratory way! So proud of the future these ladies are helping to create.
It’s all about celebration - pink ladoos for the entire family, a special treat for the mom who just gave the gift of life and the little baby girl - who showed up! Yay!
Here's an opportunity for you to come in and support - mother to mother. I will give a new Mom a gift on your behalf with a personalized message if you'd like. Sometimes, it is all about knowing that someone out there is thinking about you and your baby girl. And for every 5 gifts I will donate a special gift for the baby. Please let me know if you would like to pamper a Mum and reinforce the message of celebrating girls. Or why not consider gifting on behalf of your daughter, as you pay it forward!
Contact me if you want more information or you are interested in participating. I'm in the process of organizing the gift now so please use Twitter @DearDIDI_KSC or use the contact page on this site. Thank you to all the wonderful ladies who have already participated. You are absolutely awesome and it is greatly appreciated!
Together we can help our sisters get ready for the adventure called motherhood!
Thanks so much!
All my love,
Me
